PEI Fall Drive - Update

Here are a few photographs from our PEI trip. There aren't many, as everyone already knows what rain looks like!

Despite the weather, we had a good time. We did run into a problem on the way when my driver's-side wiper decided it didn't want to work anymore. Ernst and I pulled over in Petitcodiac, and Ernst swapped the wipers around. The repair took about an hour, and we were very lucky that the rain stopped while he was working on them.

The fix lasted until we arrived in PEI. Unfortunately, it was raining quite heavily, and then the passenger-side wiper decided it didn't want to work either. I removed it and continued on to Summerside.

Even though it rained for much of the trip, we had a great time driving around the island. It also turned out to be an excellent test for my Spitfire soft top. After stretching it last year, it no longer leaks.

All in all, it was a great trip and a successful test for my soft top.

Report on August 19th Meeting

Here's the report from tonight's meeting at the Hilltop.  We had a good turnout and it was great fun as it always is. 

Despite dark and threatening clouds which failed to deliver any rain (this is becoming the norm here), a decent sized group of FABACians met at the ever popular Hilltop for our August dinner/meeting.

Gary brought us up to speed on the happenings for the past while:

·       He thanked me (Rob E.) for taking his place while he was off raising heck somewhere.  Awww shucks guys...

·       The recent outing led by Ernst was mentioned.  Photos and a write up are already on the site.

·       The club’s 25th anniversary party was mentioned.  

·       John Dewitt's recent run was also mentioned.  Of note was the fact that no one got lost or had to resort to horrible roads.

·       Gary brought us up on the brand, spanking new website that Mike, Erin and Nathan have launched. If you're reading this, I don't have to tell you about it.  We congratulated the previous webmaster, David N. on keeping the original site going for 25 years.  

·       Johanna Bertin talked about her bike riding in support of children's cancer treatments. She's first in Canada for her age group. We're all pretty proud for you of what you continue to do.

·       I (Rob E.) then took the floor and talked about the Tuesday breakfasts and our open invitation to the ladies. A few of you (you know who I'm talking about) have attended the breakfasts and you know darn well that we almost never talk cars or other boring stuff.  If a few of you show up, you can always grab your own table(s) so that you act like you're not with us.  And you get a free breakfast.

UPCOMING EVENTS...  

·       The Stanley Fair is always fun and well attended.  All the info has already been posted.

·       A trip to PEI is coming in September.

·       Our next dinner/meeting will be at the ever popular El Mariachi.  We've been there a couple of times already and everyone enjoyed it.  Details will be posted but it'll be on the 16th of September at 5:30PM.

PEI Fall Drive & Car Show Trip

Ernst, Mark, and John D are planning a trip to Summerside, PEI, for the last car show of the season on Friday, September 4. They will be staying in Summerside for two nights.

On Saturday, September 5, they plan to tour the island's north shore, following Route 11 and other scenic roads from Summerside to the western tip of PEI and along the northern coastline. The goal is to see as much of the beautiful coastline as possible while enjoying a relaxing drive through the province.

Update: We will be meeting at the Tim Hortons in Oromocto at the Gateway (or next to Sobeys) around 9:30am and leaving at 10am.

Stanley Fair Report

We could not have asked for a better day or a better event or a better club turn out for our annual signature event, our participation in the Stanley Fair. 

We could have had our own car show at the Canadian Tire NS meeting spot where we had a wonderful turnout! It was one of our best turnouts in quite some time. The top down drive from there to the fair grounds was wonderful, especially along the Nashwaak River then onto English Settlement Rd with its long and winding forested roads all made for a great start to the day. 

Arriving at the Fair we were greeted by Larry and Sandi our organizers and in a short while we were guided to our parking area. Owing to the large number of our cars and the fact we had to share the display area with a semi truck made for a tight squeeze. A small issue really in the overall experience of all the fun happenings at the fair. I think everyone had a great time with an array of good food outlets, just the wondering about, sharing stories with others, chatting with the fair goers about our cars and so many other activities including of course the sheep shearing which everyone should attend at some point! Oh yes, Joe and Pat brought their VW Van which became almost like home base and certainly provided many of us with some shaded comfort from the hot sun! 

  

Thanks to all of you who attended this event. I'm sure the fair organizers and certainly those fair goers who viewed our cars enjoyed the experience of having us there. I know I did!

Lets look forward to doing it again next year. Perhaps we should show up in a Canadian theme in support of this great country we live in?

Here are a few photographs of the Stanley fair. We had a great time, I think we had around 18 cars attend. It was good to see Jim Woodford and David Nielsen, there were two Morgan. All said and done we had a great time. 

Stanley Fair Update

Following up on Larry's previously posted note, I'll be leading the group to the Stanley Fair on Saturday Aug 22 with a departure from the Northside Canadian Tire at 10:15. We'll travel via Route 148 to Taymouth and onto English Settlement Rd to Stanley. This in itself is a beautiful drive along the Nashwaak River onto the English Settlement Rd. 

You may want to bring foldable chairs, sun protection, and water.

Deer Island Run

What a great event today that John D. put on for us. Eight (8) cars left our meeting spot in Harvey for a wonderful day trip to Deer Island. And what a wonderful trip it was! It hit all the high wow points with terrific weather, for the most part great roads and superlative seas for the return ferry crossings, stunning scenery, a wonderful lunch at the Cat Sill restaurant on Deer Island, followed later on by a great return rest spot for ice cream in St George! It really was a great time!

It's events like this that has made this club the success it has been for the last 25 years. 

Thank-you John for yet another wonderful event and for all your contributions for all of those years.

David is on the loose

We have had reports of David Neilson driving his red Morgan around the north side of Fredericton today. Who doesn't love seeing David in his Morgan?
